Father Christmas Newsletter

Dear Members, Season’s Greetings, it’s always amazing how quickly, after Remembrance Day, Christmas begins and this year has been no exception for the Board and the Father Christmas Committee (led by Karen Pinsent). At this stage, 2 days before the opening of the Father Christmas Festival, at the Gazebo on Friday 24th November, Karen and all of us would like to thank all of you, our members. This year the support from you has, and continues to, make a real difference. We are amazed at the “magic” that is forthcoming and the commitment, it reassures us that we as a town and a chamber are working together to have this festival be an integral part of the years marketing and attraction to bring people to our town.

On Friday 24 November (in 2 days) at the Gazebo starting at 6.15pm is the opening of the 2017 Father Christmas Festival beginning with the St John’s Lutheran Church Bell Ringers.

This year the evening is a little different and as usual includes, the lighting of the tree, the bells of St James Anglican Church, a 25 plus strong choir made up of representatives of the five (5) churches of Mahone Bay and then at the end of the ceremony, the traditional march up to the Mahone Bay Centre for Cookies & Cocoa with entertainment again from the Bell Ringers and the Legion Swing Band. Included in the evening will be a surprise guest. Special thanks to Cross Fire Productions who are providing, lighting, sound, microphones and speakers to make the event more special.

See you there, although some of you will be working, can you spread the word please. Friday 24th November, 2017 – 6.15pm – Be there or be square!

The Father Christmas Committee dedicates this year's festival in loving memory of Dr. David and Heather Abriel, who will be missed from the bottom of everyone’s hearts, it’s rare that a couple can touch a whole community as deeply as they did. We again would like to remind you of the wonderful opportunity for you to donate to the Mahone Bay Centre to the Heather and David Abriel Room, please click here for more information and a donation form.

There is so much do to this year and if you haven’t been following the evolving and updated HUGE list of events on www.mahonebay.com and on the Father Christmas Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Father-Christmas-Festival-Mahone-Bay-851341874890961/ then please follow these links. The Reindeer Run is nearly fully registered (at the time of sending this newsletter 182 are registered), but there are still places to reach the 200 cap. The youngest is 7 and so far, the oldest is 79. Starting at 5pm you need to register on www.raceroster.com see more below. Also, the profits from the Reindeer Run are going to the House that Gives, a place many of you know and appreciate in Halifax the service they provide. If you would like to make a donation in support of the Mahone Bay Reindeer Run, please click the donate button. These donations will be donated directly to the Lodge that Gives http://convio.cancer.ca/goto/mahonebayreindeerrun.

Finally, a big thanks to Tom Ernst, Derrick MacKenzie and everyone at the Town of Mahone Bay, without their support we could not do so much, check out the photo below. See you at some of the events, remember to ride the train (donations $2-$5), go and visit the 4 decorated houses on the house tour, the Gourmet Market (in Rebecca’s old restaurant) and much more. www.mahonebay.com

Warm regards Charles
